PHTM EXPO

make the transition to EVs more accessible and viable – are on the way so watch this space as they say.

Amer Hasan – CEO minicabit

Amer explained how minicabit has been rolling out to include EVs, and informed us of his excellent work with his airport contracts, including a great example of how bookings and routes now included where to access charging points within the journey to ensure

that there is no risk of drivers not being able to find such facilities. Incorporating such things into his technology is a superb example of how to embrace change and adapt.

Dr Michael Galvin, Freelance Consultant and Board Advisor Taxi, Private Hire, Mobility, Strategy, Operational and Regulatory

Mike clearly explained the difficulties that our industry was up against, and how important it was that those issues were recognised and resolved as a matter of urgency.

The main issues raised were: tinted windows / Clean Air Zones / charging infrastructure / cost of vehicles / CCTV

Most of the discussion from the floor was naturally about electric vehicles and the issues that we are facing. It was really great to be able to provide that direct platform where you could ask the experts as many questions as you wanted.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETNG

On day two, we held the NPHTA annual general meeting with myself, Steven Toy, and Colin Dodds on the stage to update members on our progress over the past year, the growth in membership, and why membership was so important.

Colin explained his background and described why he made the decision to join and support the NPHTA, providing details on the importance of driver safety. Whilst Steven focused more on the work we have been doing across the UK, supporting local associations with consultation responses and assisting drivers with direct issues. He also gave an extremely good explanation of the Regulators Code 2014: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulators- code.

Various topics were discussed, with an open discussion time OCTOBER 2021

where we also covered the importance of both private hire and hackney carriage drivers working together. Yes there are differences between the two, and whilst those may cause a little separation, the fact remains that there are many changes coming, or indeed recently made, that are generic, both locally and nationally, Government changes, and in reality, both types of licences are issued by the same licensing authorities.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE EXPO OVERALL?

There was a lot of anticipation about how busy the PHTM EXPO would be after Covid.

Well; the venue was full to capacity with exhibitors offering everything the industry needs, including both regular and existing suppliers to the trade, as well as new products and services on display. It was amazing to see and be a part of. The atmosphere was fantastic, with everyone excited to be back.

Visitors to the show braved the incessant rain on the first day to attend, but the feedback from them was just as positive as that of the exhibitors. They were pleased to be back too and thoroughly enjoyed viewing the vast array of vehicles and checking out all the technology and other trade-related products and services on display.

Of course the return of the stilt walkers handing out PHTM’s ‘NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE’ stickers and chatting with the visitors was a welcome sight and added to the feel good factor within the exhibition hall.

Following the first day, I asked the majority of exhibitors how the day had gone for them, all of those asked were very clear that they had all been far busier this time, than they had ever been before.

Thank you to all exhibitors, all the speakers and more importantly - you, the visitors that took time out of your busy schedules to come along. You helped the event to be a huge success!

But most of all, thank you to all those at PHTM, especially Liza, for organising such a great event once again. You really did an excellent job on behalf of our industry.

We very much look forward to the next PHTM EXPO in 2022 and its continued growth. BRING IT ON!!
