SHAME SHAME RAPIST SOUTHAMPTON DRIVER CLAIMED VICTIM
‘FELL ON HIM WHEN HIS TROUSERS WERE UNDONE’
Taxi driver Ferham Khan, 29, raped a sleeping customer in his cab after he picked up his victim, 33, after a night out in Winchester
in
September 2017. Metro reports that believing she was asleep in his car, he pulled over in an unknown location then he sexually abused and orally raped her. When questioned by officers, Khan, from Southampton, claimed the attack was an ‘accident’
and ‘the woman had fallen on him whilst he had his trousers unbuttoned’. Khan’s victim said she ‘froze in fear’ during the attack and
afterwards,
when the rapist believed she had passed out, Khan phoned police. He told officers he had an unconcious woman in his car and said he ‘wanted her removed’. When police and paramedics arrived, the traumatised vic- tim told them what
Ferham Khan
had happened. Khan has now been jailed for 12 years after jurors delivered a unanimous guilty verdict after a seven- day trial at South- ampton Crown Court. In court, Khan
admitted to having sex with the woman but denied rape claiming that the sex was consensual. Meanwhile safety concerns have been reignited as the Echo has learnt that Khan was licensed by City of Wolver- hampton Council (CWC), but was working for Wessex Cars in Winchester – which has been des- cribed as a “grave concern” by Winch- ester City Council. Concerns were raised last year about

pedestrian crossed the third lane and got close to com- pleting the crossing he was hit by the taxi.” Motorist Joan Lester was in the middle lane alongside the taxi which was on the inside track clos- est to the town centre, as they trav- elled
round a
right-hand curve. She told the jury: “As I turned I saw an older man crossing the road. He was
stooped over and moving very slowly. When I first saw him he was in the first of the three lanes he had to cross. I said to my husband: ‘I don’t know if he is going to make it.’ “I thought I was going to have to stop but as I started to slow he cleared my lane and moved into the third lane where there was a collision between him and another car. I had started to slow but the other car had not done any- thing. The man stepped into its lane and it hit him.” According to the Express and Star, the

prosecution Hafeez,
from Lye, could have stopped in time to avoid hitting the pensioner. He main-
tained he did not see the victim until the man had cross- ed the road. The defendant claim- ed: “The first time I saw him he was on the pavement. I did- n’t see him cross the road. “As I approached him he fell onto the wing of the car, hit the wing mirror and fell onto the ground. I got out and asked him if he was OK. He said: ‘I am OK and want to go home’.” Mr Spratt
said:
“There was no obstruction and no vehicle between you and him. You were distracted in some way and were not paying
proper
attention to the road in front of you and collided with the man as he was crossing the road.”
Wolverhampton- licensed taxis operat- ing in Winchester. Responding to the news, a spokesman for CWC said: “Khan underwent an en- hanced DBS check at the time of his application and had no previous convic- tions. As soon as we received informa- tion from Hampshire police that
they
were investigating him on suspicion of a serious sexual assault, we immedi- ately took him off the road.”
The spokesman ad- ded the authority would welcome the introduction of man- datory CCTV cam- eras in all taxis. Wessex Cars direc- tor Farooq Khan (who is not related to Ferham) stressed that the DBS checks were to the same standards wherever they are carried out. He added that he would no longer be renewing Wolver- hampton licences, and also backed a call for CCTV cam- eras.
