HACKNEY CARRIAGE DRIVERS In our industry, hackney drivers have the highest daily running costs. Furthermore, the demands and needs of the general public have changed with many people with disabilities looking for easier accessible vehicles with the option for wheelchair storage in the boot and the majority preferring to book a private hire vehicle in advance rather than hail or queue for a taxi at a rank.
This is why we are now seeing a growing number of hackney drivers moving from diesel cabs to full electric or hybrid saloon vehicles.

l Full EV drivers tend to use 45% to 55% per day of range, a cost to work of £4-£8 a day if charging at 34p per kwh

l A hybrid battery is 1.87 kw l A plug-in battery is 18 kw l A full EV battery ranges from 40kw to 100kw FACT: 10% of battery range = 1 kwh of electric charge MYTH: 1% of range is 1 mile or 3 miles
IT IS NOT worked out like this as you are constantly making electric as you slow down.
To be clear, what is important is the % of range available not the miles – once you understand that important fact then you are onto a winner.
