A Scottish taxi driver has been hailed as a ‘bloody legend’ after he scooped £125,000 on Who Want’s to be a Millionaire? recently. Ray Mann, from Musselburgh, showed incredible skill and courage to work his way up the board - and fans were delighted for the retired cab driver as he took home the life-changing cash. Ray had a stroke of luck, too. After being asked a question on Julian Fellowes, he revealed that he once picked Julian up in the back of his cab while working in Edinburgh. He used his lifelines wisely and host Jeremy Clarkson even helped him reach the correct answer to win £64,000 on a question about Meryl Streep films. In the tense moment Ray was asked: “In which of these films does Meryl Streep play a wholly fictional
character and not one based on a real person?” His options were Out of Africa, The Hours, The Post and Suffragette. Ray was stuck between The Hours and The Post - knowing if If he got it wrong he would lose £31,000. He used a phone a friend but stumbled over his words and didn’t read the question out properly. It didn’t matter
though, as his friend had no idea. Jeremy then got confused, as Ray then used his 50/50 and Ask the Host life- lines but re-reading the question one last time, Ray decided to go for The Hours, which was the correct answer. Delighted with getting so far, he decided not to risk answering the next question which would have seen him lose out. His final question was: “Which country shares the longest land border with Germany?” The possible answers were Austria, France, Netherlands and Poland. Ray said he would have chosen Poland but decided to call it quits with his winnings of £125,000. The correct answer was Austria. Viewers were over the moon for Ray, taking to social media to share their congratulations. One said: “Well done Ray, best contestant in a long while.”
