SHENZHEN CABBIE HAILED A HERO AFTER SAVING DISTRESSED PASSENGER
A 57-year-old taxi driver in Shenzhen, China, has been praised as a hero online after his quick thinking and compassionate actions saved a young woman from a potentially tragic situation. The incident unfolded earlier this month when a woman in her 20s boarded Lu Jianjun’s taxi and requested a ride to the seaside at Shenzhen Bay. Lu grew concerned when the passenger began crying and making negative phone calls. As they neared the coast, her distress escalated. Sensing danger, Lu decided to detour away from the coastline to comfort her, offering to take her to a nearby park for fresh air instead. Dashcam footage captured Lu trying to soothe the woman, advising her, “You must not do anything foolish, do you understand? It’s not worth it.” When the passenger began crying louder, Lu called the police. The situation quickly spiralled out of control when the woman suddenly opened the car door and insisted on getting out. Lu tried to persuade her to stay, promising, “I’ll send you back home for free, I’ll take you back, okay?” He then followed her on foot through the rain, successfully coaxing her back into the taxi. However, minutes later, she became agitated again, pushed Lu away, and ran onto the road. Lu immediately updated the police with her description and last known location, joining the search himself. Police officers eventually located the woman and ensured she was reunited with her family once her mood stabilised. Internet users have widely commended Lu for his alertness and determination to help. Reflecting on the incident, the driver remained humble about his lifesaving efforts. “It’s part of our responsibilities as a driver. Money doesn’t matter. Saving a life is more important than anything else,” Lu said.

MALAYSIAN CABBIE INVESTIGATED AFTER PASSENGER LEAPS FROM CAB
A 47-year-old taxi driver in Malaysia is at the centre of a police inves- tigation after a terrified passenger threw herself out of his moving vehicle on a busy highway. The dramatic incident, which occurred around 9:30 am on May 1, was captured on dashcam footage showing the woman leaping onto the tarmac, sending her shoes and phone flying as following motorists braked hard to avoid her.
The passenger told authorities her anxiety escalated because she believed the driver had been watching her repeatedly through the rear-view mirror without explanation. North Klang district police chief Vijaya Rao stated that the woman’s fear of the driver’s behaviour became so great that she felt she had to jump, resulting in minor injuries. Following the leap, the driver immediately brought the red cab to a halt. While the driver has since cancelled the trip and filed a formal report with the police, he could face serious legal consequences. Officials noted that if any wrongdoing is proven, the driver may be charged under provisions of the Penal Code for an act “endangering life or personal safety.” The woman was assisted at the scene by a passing motorist who took her to a clinic for treatment. Police are currently working to locate the passenger to complete their inquiry into the driver’s actions and the events leading up to her desperate escape.
