SHORT-LIVED FREEDOM: SERIAL FARE DODGER JAILED AFTER TARGETING CHORLEY CABBIE
A 25-year-old man is back behind bars after he refused to pay for a taxi ride in Chorley shortly after being released from prison. Leroy Teasdale pleaded guilty to making off without payment during a hearing at Preston Magistrates on April 14, where he was sentenced to two months in jail. The court heard that Teasdale, who has a history of targeting local taxi drivers, was also ordered to pay the
victim £100 in compensation. This latest inci- dent follows a series of serious run-ins with the trade in the Bamber Bridge and Leyland areas. Earlier this year, Teasdale was the subject of a public manhunt by Lancashire Police following a
terrifying incident where a driver was robbed at knifepoint. In that case, Teasdale allegedly used the name ‘Jamie’ to book a ride before threatening the driver with a blade and forcing him to transfer £250 via a banking app. He was eventually arrested on a string of charges, including robbery and kidnap, and was returned to prison before committing this most recent fare evasion.
HUDDERSFIELD MAN TO PAY COMPENSATION AFTER VICIOUS ATTACK ON CABBIE OVER PARKING
A 32-year-old man from Huddersfield has been ordered to pay compensation and perform community service after a violent assault on a taxi driver. The attack took place on Ruskin Grove in the Sheepridge area on March 31, 2024, following what was described as a parking “dispute.”
Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard that Bilal Khan punched and kicked the driver, Almas Haider, in the face and body. The assault left the victim with a black
eye,
bruising, and cuts to his face. Khan pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning ABH. The prosecutor told the court that the
violence stemmed from a dis- agreement over a parking space. As part of his sentence, Khan was ordered to pay the driver £500 in compensation, along with a £114 surcharge and £85 in costs. He must also complete a 12-month community order and carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
PEEBLES MAN SPARED JAIL AFTER STRIKING TAXI DRIVER WITH WINE BOTTLE
A 21-year-old man from Peebles has avoided a prison sentence after hitting a female taxi driver on the head with a wine bottle, leaving her permanently disfigured. Cameron Sinclair was a teenager at the time of the attack, which took place in November 2024 after he had been part of a large wedding party travelling back from Edinburgh. The court heard that the incident began when the driver noticed someone had been sick in her taxi. Although Sinclair admitted

he was responsible, he refused to clean the mess when asked. He then struck the woman with a wine bottle, breaking her glasses and causing a severe cut to her eyebrow that had to be glued at Borders General Hospital. Sinclair also caused a disturbance at the hospital, where he assaulted another man. Sheriff Peter Paterson noted that the only reason Sinclair was not being sent to jail was “due to his age and the direction the courts
have been given regarding that.” The court had previously delayed the sentencing for six months to monitor Sinclair’s conduct. After hearing that Sinclair had stayed out of trouble during that time, Sheriff Paterson ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. The community service was handed down as a direct alternative to a custodial sentence for the assault, which resulted in the victim’s
“severe injury and permanent disfigurement.” JUNE 2026 PHTM
