SHOCKING NEWS
FRIGHTENING MOMENT CLEETHORPES CABBIE’S CAR IS SET ON FIRE FOR SECOND TIME IN A MONTH
A Cleethorpes cabbie has been left feeling unsafe in his own home after he had “two cars set on fire” in less then a month. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, lives in the Sandringham Road area and fears for his family and neighbours after a reported arson attack on his car that was caught on camera, not long after another vehicle he was renting set on fire. The footage of the latest incident appears to show petrol being poured on a white Audi on a driveway before it is set alight. The blazes mean he has lost his job as a taxi driver, leaving him with no income to provide for his four children. His wife has not slept since the blaze at around 2am on May 30 worried by what else might happen. He said: “I’ve been driving taxis for 14 months now and lived here for
over 20 years with no issues, not even a car crash. However, about a month ago everything went wrong. The taxi I was renting was set on fire so I opted to buy a car myself instead of rent another.” Worried about what might happen, he started parking his new car on the drive to keep it out the way and installed CCTV cameras outside his house. Sadly, the same thing happened again, leaving him to worry for his safety and those around him. He said: “When I looked back at the CCTV, I saw two people
pouring petrol all over the car and on my drive before lighting it and running away.” The Cleethorpes man added: “I don’t want to bring trouble to my family, I just want to get some help identifying them. When I saw it happened again I was really upset. “I’ve lost my job as well as a huge amount of money. Honestly, I don’t feel safe at all currently. However, I really appreciated the help from my neighbours who came to help put it out straight away.” Humberside Police said: “We are investigating reports of arson following an incident on Tuesday, May 30. Officers were called at around 2.25am to reports that a white Audi had been set alight. The fire was quickly extinguished, and thankfully there were no injuries sustained by anyone. Our enquiries are currently ongoing.”
MUM’S HORROR AS PHV SMASHES THROUGH GARDEN WALL IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
Mum Megan Freeman has spoken of her shock after a PHV smashed through her garden wall. It’s believed a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Furlong Road and Newport Lane in Middleport, left the car in the wall - and partly in the rear garden. Megan, 24, said: “It all took place at about 6.30am this morning, (17 June). We were in bed and heard a crash and then sirens. “I came outside to see what was going on. My daughter’s swing is the other side of the wall and was knocked down and I dread to think

if this had happened later in the day while we were out in the garden.” Megan says it’s not the first time there has been a crash right on her doorstep. Back in the New Year of
2021 a car collided with the wall at the front of the family home. Now Megan, who has lived in the property since 2019, says she and other residents want to see road improvements in the area. She added: “There used to be railings at the junction of Newport Lane but they were taken down and not replaced. The road markings are all really badly worn away and this is a busy road. I now have to think about letting my daughter play out.” Her damaged wall is set to be fixed by the housing association.
