GETT RIDERS RAISE MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS’ DONATIONS TO PLANT THOUSANDS OF TREES

A London taxi app has raised enough money for 14,000 trees to be planted across the UK. Guardian-Series reports that money from customers’ optional in-app donations funded a mass planting session at Aston Playing Field, a vast woodland on the M11 near Redbridge. Taxi app, Gett, set up a feature that gives customers in the UK the option to add a £1.99 donation to their journeys. All proceeds went to Trees for Cities, a

charity that helps create cleaner urban centres. Gett CEO Matteo De Renzi said: “Gett’s partnership with Trees for Cities is a key part of our broader strategy. “I’m incredibly proud of both our teams and our customers for sharing such a strong sense of responsi- bility towards our planet”

SUNNY TROON WELCOMES BACK GLASGOW TAXIS OUTING FOR LONG-AWAITED 75TH ANNIVERSARY BASH

Glasgow Taxis returned to Troon on Wednesday 15 June, as the Ayrshire town celebrated the 75th year of the annual outing. The Daily Record reports that after a two-year Covid hiatus, hundreds of kids with additional support needs flocked to the seaside and it was well worth the wait. The South Ayrshire town pulled out all the stops with traders decorating their shops and businesses for the colourful cavalcade. Residents lined the streets to witness a spectacular parade with a pipe band, welcoming streams of taxis, also dressed up for occasion. The sea of colour matched with the glorious weather as the town basked in the sunshine during the visit. An incredible 125 taxis headed to the town for the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund event – with each selfless driver giving up their earnings for the day to provide a magical experience for the children. Many donned costumes with charac- ters from the Disney hit Frozen spotted alongside Scooby Doo, Super Mario Brothers and Captain Jack Sparrow. One cab had a heroic display, boasting

Marvel mini-posters on the side with a host of the comic book favourites. Another was completely covered in teddy bears. One delighted resident told Ayrshire Live: “It was an amazing sight to see the taxis back in Troon.

All the colour and eye-catching cabs were a delight.” Another resident commented how the colourful sights were a fitting tribute to the late community council chair Helen Duff. The parade weaved through the town before heading to the beach where kids were greeted with musical enter- tainment and soft play at the sea front. Troon councillor Craig Mackay said: “I was delighted, after a two-year gap, to have been part of the procession for the 75th Glasgow Taxi Outing to Troon this afternoon. “Great weather, an amazing 125 taxis and the people of Troon thronging the streets for a fantastic cause.”
