SIX MORE LOCAL CAB OPERATORS GO LIVE IN LEEDS, KIRKLEES, LEICESTER, YORK, STOKE AND BIRMINGHAM

Uber has announced that it is extend- ing its Local Cab product with six new operators. Passengers in Leeds will now be able to use Local Cab to connect with SJK Pri- vate Hire and passengers across West Yorkshire will also now be able to use Local Cab to connect with local taxi operator Oakwell Taxis in Kirklees. Shelley Johnson, Director at SJK Pri- vate Hire, said: “We’re making it quicker and easier for people to get around Leeds, connecting more passengers with taxi drivers via the Uber app.” Fayyaz Sayed, Director at Oakwell Rex Taxis, said: “The partnership with Uber is enabling us to provide further job opportunities to our drivers.” In Stoke-on-Trent, Local Cab trips will be passed to Lucky Seven Private Hire

to fulfil, and all subsequent customer support will be provided by them. Zahir Ahmad, General Manager at Lucky Seven Private Hire, said: “We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options.” AK Manor Cars is the latest operator to be able to fulfil Local Cab trips in Birm- ingham. Imtiaz Ahmed, Director at AK Manor Cars, said: “We look forward to making Local Cab available to more people across Birmingham, making it quicker and easier for people to get around.”

In addition to the regular Uber-operat- ed options that include UberX, Exec, Comfort, and Lux, passengers in York will now be able to use Local Cab to

connect with local taxi firm 34 Cars. Mohammed Iqbal, Director at 34 Cars, said: “We hope the partnership with Uber will attract new recruits to join our fleet.”

Finally in Leicester, Uber is now work- ing with local taxi firm ADT Taxis. The arrival of Uber’s Local Cab product in the city follows a series of previous launches in towns and cities across the UK, including in nearby Birmingham and Peterborough. David Hunter, CEO of Take Me Group, which owns ADT Taxis, said: “We look forward to making Local Cab available to the people of Leicester as demand continues to rise.” Uber’s app will integrate with Auto- cab’s iGo network, which has the potential to connect passengers with 80,000 PH and taxi drivers in the UK.
