...JUST DESSERTS KNIFE THUGS JAILED FOR £20 FARE ROW ATTACK ON
GLASGOWCABBIE THAT LEFT HIM TOO TERRIFIED TO WORK
Two thugs who attacked a taxi driv- er over a £20 fare have been locked up for a total of 42 months. The Daily Record reports that Sajid Javed, 36, was stabbed by Gordon McPherson, 21, and repeatedly punch- ed by
Dylan
Sullivan, 20, outside their house in
August last year. The terrified cabbie was left scarred for life after the duo pounced in Glas- gow’s Govan last August. It emerged Mr Javed is still too afraid to work months after his ordeal. His attackers were sentenced on 14 January at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
McPherson - who already had a vio- lent past - was locked up for 32 months after ad- mitting subjecting the dad of three to his severe injury and permanent dis- figurement. Sullivan meanwhile was ordered to serve ten months following his guilty plea to subjecting
RACIST YOB PUNCHED TAXI DRIVER IN SOUTH TYNESIDE
A racist yob has avoided an imme- diate
sentence after he punched a taxi driver while trying to flee without pay- ing a fare.
Drunk Anthony Peacock became abusive and lashed out at the cabbie before telling him to “ f**k off, you p**** b*****d” when he was dropped off at a McDonald’s in South Tyneside. The 40-year-old, who has no memo- ry of the shocking incident, had tried to run from the taxi without paying the £25.60 fair but was followed by the vic- tim. Instead of cough- ing-up the cash, Peacock instantly became abusive and punched the cabbie to the left side of his head, prosecutors said.

But the abuse didn’ t end there as the brave victim grab- bed hold of Pea- cock, only to be given more abuse, this time with the racist slur. The police attend- ed after being called by staff at McDonald’s and the taxi driver himself and the drunk lout was arrested. Peacock pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated public order offence, as- sault by beating and making-off without paying at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court. And, he was told by District Judge Kate Meek that he came extremely close to being sent to prison immediately. Giving him a 20- week jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, the judge said: “It’s a sus-

tained incident on a person working in the early hours of the morning and you’re so drunk, you don’t know what you’re doing to a relatively iso- lated person. “So far as the offences are con- cerned, there really is no mitigation.” In a statement read to the court, the victim said: “I feel like I didn’t deserve to have

abuse aimed at me and it makes me feel uncomfortable. “I have heard this term used towards me on many occa- sions but it still affects me upon hearing it.” As well as the sus- pended sentence, Peacock was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and must pay £400 compensa- tion to the victim.
Mr Javed to his injury. Both struck having previously been freed early from earlier stints behind bars.
Sheriff Iain Fleming said: “This was a vicious and sus- tained assault to a man in his employ- ment and this will attract a prison sentence.” A hearing was told the thugs ordered a cab in Govan taking them to Scotstoun in the city’s west end. They were told the fare had be paid up front because of the distance. Mr Javed arrived and told McPher- son and Sullivan that the fare was £20 which they

“took exception” to. Prosecutor Pat Cal- lendar said: “They began to assault him. McPherson struck Mr Javed on the head and body with a knife while Sullivan repeatedly punched him on the head.”
Neighbours heard what was happen- ing and heard
the name ‘Gordon’ was shouted. Mr Javed managed to get back into his taxi as the attack- ers fled. A resident dialled 999 before the victim was rushed to hospital. A cheek wound needed nine stitch- es while he also had injuries to his ear, head and back.
BLACKBURN REVELLERS RACIALLY ABUSED DRIVER AFTER NIGHT OUT
A taxi driver bring- ing a group of young men back to Blackburn after a night out was racially abused by two of them. The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Blackburn Magistrates heard that they also caused damage to his taxi and one of them assaulted him after he stop- ped his vehicle short of their desti- nation because one
of the males was hanging out of the window during the journey. Bradley Lowe, 23, of Blackburn, and Zachary Sander- son, 20, of Burnley, were both convict- ed after the trial of racially aggravated threatening behav- iour and racially aggravated crimi- nal damage and Sanderson of racially aggravated assault of Mo- hammed Siddiki.
They were both sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, made sub- ject to a com- munity order for 12 months with 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £400 costs and £300 compen- sation to
Mr
Siddiki. The court heard both men had been convicted after the trial and did not accept their guilt.
