Masks Manadatory in enGLand on PubLiC transPort

Face coverings have been made mandatory again in England when travelling on public transport. They continue to be mandatory in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Government has confirmed to the NPHTA that our trade is being included in this instance as public transport. As of 4am on Tuesday 30 November Face coverings MUST BE WORN by ALL passengers in hackney and private hire vehicles - unless they are exempt. The following groups are still exempt from wearing a face covering: • children under the age of 11 (PHE does not recommend face coverings for children under the age of three)

• people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face cover- ing because of a physical or mental illness or disability

• where the putting on, wearing or removing a face cover- ing will cause severe distress

• instances where people are speaking to or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expressions to communicate It is however NOT MANDATORY for drivers to wear a face covering but the current advice for your own protection is that you SHOULD wear one.

sCaM aLert: suffered by MeMber of our trade

As reported to PHTM: • Booking placed over the phone. • Payment requested by card/BACS in advance. • Card was offered. • Payment completed over the phone with card details provided.

• Booker - Warren Event Hire. • Probably false company name, possible connection is Kirsty Hamilton.

• Job is DJ transfer from Nottingham to South London - postcode near Waterloo Station, block of flats.

• Payment hit my bank account, but three weeks later, was refunded to card owner as they claimed it was a fraudulent transaction without their authority.

• CHARGE BACK £306.00 from my next lot of card transac- tions from my card terminal provider.

• So, either they used a stolen card, or they book chauffeurs/taxis/private hire for transfers to Waterloo area of London often and then do charge back, so drivers lose money.

• I’ve lodged appeal against loss of money. Please let us know if this has happened to you.

Counterfeit banknotes: HoW to sPot tHeM

We advise that when trying to authenticate a banknote, you should check for as many as possible of the following: • Serial Numbers - genuine notes have unique serial num- bers therefore if you have two notes displaying the same serial number at least one of them is a counterfeit.

• Paper - genuine banknote paper should be crisp and not limp, waxy or shiny. It should not feel like normal paper.

• Watermark - genuine watermarks should be hardly appar- ent until the note is held up to the light when the clear portrait with subtle light and shade becomes visible.

• Security Thread - genuine notes have a metallic thread embedded in the paper and when the note is held up to the light the thread appears as a bold continuous line.

• Printing - raised print is used in some of the features on genuine banknotes and should feel slightly rough to the touch. Lines and print should be sharp and well defined with no blurred edges. Colours should be clear – not hazy.

• Move/Tilt - if a note bears a hologram the colours/images will change depending on the angle the note is held.

• Detector Pen - when applied; detector pens leave a dark line on most counterfeit notes; if the note is genuine the pen leaves no mark.

• UV Light - genuine banknotes are dull under a UV light with only the special UV features present in the note high- lighted yellow.

Possession of a counterfeit banknote - if you don’t know who gave you the banknote, you are required to take it to any branch of the affected bank of issue. The bank will complete a “Retention of Counterfeit Currency Form” for your records. If you know for sure who gave you the note, you should take it immediately to the police for investigation.
