WELMAN CARS HAMILTON LAUNCHES NEW COMMUNITY BASED CHARITY

An award winning taxi company has started a new charity with an aim to give back to the community. According to the Daily Record, Wellman Cars, based in Hamilton, recently won Scottish Taxi Company of the Year but is now celebrating a different success story. The taxi firm will be launching its own charity which has an aim to give back to those in the community. Titled ‘Wellman Cares’ the charity follows years of community charity work from the company. Director Clare Welsh told Lanarkshire- Live: “Over the last ten or so years we have done lots of charity work within our South Lanarkshire community. “That goes from sponsoring football shirts, donating items and money for raffles and helping out people in need.

“We have spent thousands helping the community and we are always trying to help everyone we can, but sometimes it can get a bit much and we can lose track of it all. “That is why we are starting our own charity. We have used the term

‘Wellman Cares’ when doing charitable work for a while now but this will be a registered charity. “I think this will allow us to help our community more, we are committed to helping local projects in the South Lanarkshire community. “We are going to have some of our staff form a committee and they will be able to listen to groups needs and see what we can offer them. “This way we will be able to hear from community groups and listen to what they need.” The charity was kickstarted at The Cosy Corner in Hamilton recently, where there were raffles and fundrais- ing to help start the charity in style. They are now awaiting their final paperwork before they can get their official registered charity number.

RANDLAY COLTS JUNIORS FC SCORE A WINNER BY TEAMING UP WITH GO CARZ

Go Carz, Shropshire’s leading taxi and private hire vehicle firm, has announced its sponsorship of Telford under10s football team, Randlay Colts. Go Carz is part of Veezu, which operates four other regional brands and is at the heart of the local communities it services. Go Carz has bought brand new home and away kits for the lucky young players. Randlay Colts’ play has been suspended throughout the pandemic, but the players, who train every Friday at Madeley Municipal 3G Football Pitches, in Telford, ahead of play on Sundays, are thrilled with their new look. Paul Lee, who is a Driver Partner with Go Carz and has been involved with Randlay Colts for six years and on the coaching team for four years, said: “Covid had a massive impact on our

young players, but this new kit has really boosted morale. “We obviously weren’t able to train or play for five months from last March and then again from September to December, and it has really impacted on the youngsters’ mental health. “They are thrilled to be back on the pitch, especially in their new blue strip

for home games and blue and yellow away kit, both courtesy of Go Carz. “We can’t thank Go Carz enough for their support.” Go Carz Driver Partners were instrumental throughout the pandemic in delivering essential supplies as part of their ‘Click and Collect’ offering, as well as transporting pensioners who had transport troubles, to and from vaccine centres. Graham Hoof, Go Carz Regional Director, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to support Randlay Colts Under 10s with their kit this season. “It’s important to us that we give back to the local community, and we very much hope that our efforts help to keep the kids active and the club running following the impacts of Covid.”
