IN THE NEWS LIVERPOOL BOMB:
IT’S A MIRACLE I’M ALIVE, SAYS PHV DRIVER DAVID PERRY
On Sunday November 14, David Perry, a young family man and Delta Taxis licensed private hire driver, got up for work to serve his community and do his normal Sunday routine. The events that followed will change his life forever. He picked up a customer and took him to his requested destination, what he didn’t know was at 10.59am that per- son was about to perform a terrorist attack. David was injured when a homemade devise exploded shortly after he pulled up outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Thankfully, he was alerted to the bomb by a flickering red light and managed to flee from his cab seconds before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. He was taken to hospital, but

has since been discharged. The attacker, Iraq-born asylum seeker Emad Al Swealmeen, 32, who was the passenger in the cab, died when his bomb exploded. Police said the bomb was a homemade explosive with ball bearings attached to it, which could have caused “significant injury or death”.

In a statement issued, David said he and his wife Rachel were “completely overwhelmed” with the messages of support in the wake of the Remem- brance Sunday attack. “We would like to say thank you to everyone for all your get-well wishes and for your amazing generosity,” but added that he now needed “to try to come to terms with what’s happened and focus on my recovery both mentally and physically”.
Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery.
