SUFFOLK FOI SHOWS NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST TAXI AND PH DRIVERS OVER FIVE YEARS
An FOI request has revealed concerning trends in East Suffolk’s taxi industry. Over 100 complaints were filed between January 2019 and March 2024. For dangerous driving and speed-
ing offences, the council issued 130 written warnings. Four licence revocations, one suspension, two verbal warnings, and 20 written warnings were issued in response to complaints of “uncivil behav-
iour” . One report of an unlicensed taxi driver reached the police, while the council issued a written warning for a similar offence. These statistics raise concerns about safety risks in the trade.
UBER DRIVERS FACE SURGE IN COMPLAINTS TO DERBY CITY COUNCIL
Derby City Council has seen a rise in complaints against Uber drivers, raising concerns about adherence to regulations and passenger safety. A FoI request revealed a jump in complaints from 7 in 2023 to 16 in the first five months of 2024. The nature of the complaints also
shifted, with a rise in issues related to improper use of taxi ranks and missing or faulty vehicle signage. While earlier complaints included inconsiderate parking, over- charging, and suspicious behav- iour, recent reports focus on drivers blocking ranks and failing
to properly display licensing information. This increase in complaints suggests potential problems with driver conduct and compliance with regulations. The report also highlights that none of the complaints were referred to the licensing authority by Uber
