DRAGON TAXIS DONATES TO FOODBANK TO HELP SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITY

South Wales taxi and private hire firm, Dragon Taxis, has generously opened its pockets to support those going through the worst cost of living crisis seen in decades. The firm has donated £300 to Newsquest and Community Foundation Wales cost of living crisis appeal. Heart-breaking stories have emerged, including foodbank Feed Newport seeing donations drop from 80 to just two a month, and Duffryn Community Link support service seeing children they help going hungry. Dragon Taxis donated to Feed Newport through its new community support programme

‘Funded by Veezu. Kirsty Oram, Wales driver partner experience manager at Dragon Taxis, said: “No one in our community should have to face going hungry. We wanted to give something back to those in need in our local area and Feed Newport is an organisation of great

importance during this cost of living crisis.” Feed Newport has seen the harrowing reality of the crisis, with big gaps appearing in their food bank and soup kitchen. Gemma Walker, manager of Feed Newport, explained the kitchen used to be open on a Friday and Saturday, but because of funding dropping they

dropped the

Saturday kitchen. Now Gemma says there is a bit of hope, and was overwhelmed by the support. “We’re so grateful to Dragon Taxis for their donation to the appeal and hope other local businesses will join in and support our community,” said Gemma.

HAWK EXPRESS CABS ANNOUNCED AS SPONSORS OF IPSWICH HOSPICE’S MIDNIGHT WALK

One of Ipswich’s largest taxi services has been announced as the main sponsor of a popular charity walk, which will return after a two-year absence. Hawk Express Cabs chipped in to the Midnight Walk as some of its staff have a personal connection with the event. It will see walkers don their brightest fancy dress and jaunt through the town in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice on May 20. This year’s walk – the 16th overall – has a neon theme, and offers the chance for the public to party, while remembering loved ones. Kim Morphew, from Hawk Express, said: “My family have supported and taken part in the Midnight Walk in the past and it is an event we have always loved.

PHTM APRIL 2023

“My dad died from cancer back in 2019, and my family completed the walk a day later on May 10 in his memory. “When we learnt there was an opportunity to sponsor Midnight Walk we jumped at the chance as it is such a brilliant event for Ipswich and one that helps many people in the local community.

“We cannot wait for the Midnight Walk to take place this year. The atmosphere is always second-to- none and has everyone in good spirits, all while raising funds for such a worthy cause, in St Elizabeth Hospice.” The walk offers two trails, one five miles and the other ten miles, which kicks off from Portman Road at 9.30pm. Both routes take attendees on a saunter down the waterfront. Nichola Whymark from St Elizabeth Hospice said: “We are so pleased to have Hawk Express Cabs as headline sponsors for our Midnight Walk 2023 and cannot wait to work alongside their team to bring the party atmosphere to Ipswich this summer.”
