WAMITAB has developed a series of Revision Guides to support preparation for the Continuing Competence test by linking the learning outcomes with the areas that may be covered in the test. These are available to buy or there are free Revision Summaries that can be downloaded from the website.
Arrival at the test centre
It is best to arrive a little ahead of your scheduled time slot to allow time to complete the sign-in procedures. Be prepared to show a valid form of identification that contains both a photo and a signature, eg, photo driving licence or passport.
Due to COVID-19, there are some additional requirements currently (more info on the Pearson VUE website):
• You must bring and wear your own face mask/covering while you’re at the test centre and throughout your exam. A surgical or cloth face mask, including a homemade face mask, is acceptable provided your nose and mouth are fully covered.
•
Face masks with exhalation valves and face shields are not acceptable.
• Masks will not be provided and candidates without a face mask will be denied testing services.
During the test
When you start the test, you will see a screen to enable you to select your Activity Specific Test(s) – you can take up to three. Your selection should be based on the area(s) of competence you need to achieve for your waste site. You should give some thought to this before you go to the test centre; if you are unsure contact your local environmental regulator for guidance or you check the WAMITAB website. A representation of the selection screen you will see at the Test Centre is shown below.
Read all test instructions thoroughly and make sure you read the exam questions carefully.
Score Results
Candidates need to correctly answer 50% or more questions in the Generic Knowledge Test section and 50% or more questions in each Activity Specific Test and achieve a further 4 marks from either test to achieve the pass mark of 65%.
This calculation is made separately for each Activity Specific Test, so if you take two Activities these are not added up together; this is necessary as some people only take one activity test.
It is possible to pass one test and fail another in the same test sitting, in which case you would receive a certificate for the test you passed but would need to rebook for the test you failed.
After the test
You will receive a Score Report at the test centre, which shows your results on one side; on the reverse is an example to show how the result is calculated.
On the WAMITAB website there is a Continuing Competence Test Score Calculator, where you type in your scores and the pass/fail is calculated automatically. Please note, this is not an “official” result, but it is a handy check facility whilst you await confirmation from WAMITAB. If you have passed you will receive your certificate within 15 working days, and if you are not successful you will receive an email advising next steps.
There is more information on the website; and remember the saying: “Preparation is the key to success.” Good luck!
