Continuing Competence Test – the basics
Booking the test
THE CIWM/WAMITAB Continuing Competence scheme is taken at Pearson VUE test centres (where you take the Driving Theory Test); you will need a valid credit or debit card to book the test either by telephone 0161 855 7316 or online at
pearsonvue.com/wamitab
Each test costs £143 and you can book up to three months in advance. You select the location, date and time of your test at the booking stage and you are automatically entered for the Generic Knowledge Tests, but you do not select your Activity Specific Test(s) until the day of the test itself.
Changes due to COVID-19
All candidates whose Continuing Competence expired after 16 March 2020 and the implementation of lockdown resulting in the closure of the Pearson VUE test centres must schedule their test as soon as possible.
The Environment Agency has given a deadline of Friday 1 January 2021, by which date they expect all candidates in England to have passed the Continuing Competence test. At the time of writing we are awaiting an update from Natural Resources Wales, and candidates based there are advised to check THIS WEBPAGE for the latest information.

The advice is to book early as, due to social distancing requirements, the capacity at test centres has been reduced. If your scheduled test is cancelled, Pearson VUE will contact you to advise you of the situation and what you should do.
We have been advised that Pearson VUE have put steps in place to ensure that Continuing Competence candidates can attend their exam appointments during the lockdown; candidate appointments will not be rescheduled or cancelled. With the proviso that there may be occasions, due to COVID-19, when issues do occur at short notice and changes have to be made and, in such circumstances, Pearson VUE will share updates as quickly as possible.
Preparing for the test
1. Make sure that you start to revise for your test well in advance
2. Revise in a way that works for you! Try the following:
• • •
making a “spider” or mind- mapping diagram;
record yourself reading out revision notes and then listening back to it;
write out the information over and over;
