INB O X YOUR LE T T E R S Star letter
LO G AN’S RUN WELL Te letters in this magazine oſten relate to the large airlines. But many business trips are to more remote locations that are served by small independent airlines. On a recent business trip to Scotland, I had the
pleasure to fly Loganair. Not only were the flights on time, the cabin clean and the drinks/snacks free, but the staff – from the ground handlers to the pilots – were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Praise where it is due: good job Loganair. Simon Day, London

WHEELY G O OD INV E STMENT I am writing to sing the praises of my luggage set. My four-year-old Eminent hard cases (pictured) have been thoroughly put through their paces – sometimes brutally – and they have withstood every challenge with such aplomb I feel they deserve commendation. Tey have survived many long-haul flights and airport
baggage handlers (India, Russia, Mongolia, Africa and more), countless short ones including around 30 in India, several Eurostar trips and a sojourn in the Nevada Desert. I have wheeled them over the potholed streets of north- west London for (I estimate) at least 30 miles. Te toughest trials have involved metro stations – the medium-sized case, heavily laden, slipped from my grip at the top of a very long escalator in San Francisco, and accelerated away from me attaining an alarming velocity before reaching the bottom. Ten instead of slowing down as I had hoped, it continued at full speed on the smooth polished floor until it slammed into a barrier. I am eternally grateful that there were no other people on the escalator at that early hour, and while

AIR F R ANCE ER R OR FAR E A few weeks ago, British Airways received media coverage regarding something described as an “error fare”. In early May, I

the case acquired a few go-faster stripes, it remained in perfect working order. Te same suitcase has been crushed in the closing doors of a London tube train, and bounced back when eventually prised free. Everything about these cases is still
working perfectly – the interior zippered dividers, the locks, the wheels, the extending handles. I selected them on the strength of an online review in which they were attacked by a Viking before a car was dropped on them, and they have indeed lived up to their promise, for less than the cost of a carry-on case from some of the “big name” manufacturers. I paid £232 for my set of three Eminent Move Air four- wheel cases in 2014. A “best buy” indeed. Dr Annette Steele, London
AR E HO TEL S GR EENW A S HING ? I read with interest Derek Picot’s opinion in your April edition on “Saving the environment, or saving money?”. While some of the points mentioned, such as energy-saving initiatives and supporting smaller local enterprises when sourcing produce for restaurants are laudable, I fear many hotels – particularly in the four- and five-star category – are “paying lip service to eco initiatives”. How many hotels have stickers in the
bathrooms saying that if you leave your towel hanging, it will not be washed, thus saving tonnes of chemical cleaning products? Now how many of these hotels actually respect your choice when you do leave the towel hanging? It seems like they assume because you are staying in a luxury establishment, you crave careless luxuries like a fresh towel every day. Tis drives me away from four- and five-
star hotels towards three- or, even, two-star accommodation in well-known “basic” chains, where your choice not to have a fresh towel every day is respected. Te beds may not have the same fancy-named technology, promising to guarantee you the best night’s rest, but I find I sleep better with a cleaner conscience, because I’ve not contributed to unnecessary wastefulness.
