ILIP RPG headed to Glasgow for its annual unconference and was joined by delegates for a packed programme.
Here, some of those delegates share their thoughts and reflections on a successful event. Patrick Ajiboye, Administrator for CILIP East Midlands – The library and information network, writes: “I’m filled with a deep sense of gratitude and inspiration following the CILIP Unconference. Attending the event, made possible through a generous grant from CILIP RPG, was an incredible opportunity for me. The writing and reading workshops stood out for me. The sessions reignited my creative energy, restored my confidence and sparked profound insights to carry into both my personal and professional life. “The panel discussion of artificial intelligence (AI) was another highlight. It offered a deep dive into the exciting possibilities of generative AI while also tackling the ethical and safety concerns we face. Exploring how AI could shape fields like healthcare was thought-provoking, and I left with a broadened perspective.
“Perhaps the most impactful part of the event were the connections I made – meaningful conversations with industry leaders as well as fellow attendees, truly enriched my experience. The visits added a special touch to the event, grounding it in a shared love for knowledge and learning.
“The Unconference left me both inspired and eager to keep exploring, learning, and growing. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event and the new opportunities it will bring!”
Eleanor Johnston, Academic Librarian and Skills Tutor at the University of Staffordshire, writes: “The Unconference was a fantastic opportunity to meet

professionals across many types of libraries, and to talk with people from around the world.
“Topics discussed over dinner included knowledge mobilisation and working for the NHS and public libraries. The city of Glasgow provided a fantastic backdrop with guided tours and presentations at Paisley library, the Mitchell library and the Burrell collection. On the Sunday we had talks and presentations covering football, religion, politics and libraries. There were also practical sessions on creative writing, making our own artworks and a haiku poem. A panel discussion on hot topics and future directions discussed staffing and skills, new technologies, ethics values, advocacy, social values and funding.
“I found the whole Unconference to be a really rewarding and exciting three days, and the format afforded plenty of time for networking, discussion, listening and creating. I would recommend attending a future CILIP Unconference, as it is such a rewarding event.”
Stephanie Barnes, Chief Chaos Organiser at Entelechy, writes: “I really enjoyed my time at the CILIP

Unconference, it was definitely a different kind of conference for me. Going out and hearing what the libraries are doing around knowledge sharing and community-building was enlightening. Seeing the space and being on-site was so much more meaningful than having a presentation in a conference room. The Saturday afternoon visit to the Burrell Collection may not have gone to plan but spending time looking at the collection and walking around the grounds was good for my soul. Sunday was a wonderful mix of knowledge sharing and experiential learning using art. The conversations I had and the people I got to meet were engaging and inspiring, I am grateful for this experience and the time spent with everyone.”
