created training sessions delivered with expert partners, there is something for everyone looking to bridge a gap in their knowledge.

And next year will see the launch of CILIP Learn, an exciting new platform that will put a wide range of CILIP curated training at your fingertips. CILIP Learn will bring together, all in one place, recognised training partners to offer a mix of learning opportunities that meet your professional development needs. All of CILIP’s training and development is underpinned by the world-renowned PKSB and toolkit, which was developed to give information professionals a clear insight into their own skills needs. The Professionals Knowledge and Skills Base allows you to gauge your own professional skills and tailor training to specific needs that you identify. The PKSB is a unique tool to help you personalise your needs and create your own training plan.

Professional Registration Sitting alongside the growing training offer and PKSB is CILIP’s Professional Registration scheme. Achieving Professional Registration shows a clear commitment to professional development and is widely recognised by employers both in the UK and internationally. Professional Registration allows anyone to demonstrate their skills and knowledge at one of three levels – Certification, Chartership or Fellowship. Each level reflects where you are in your career and focuses on developing and showing real- world skills and knowledge, as outlined in the PKSB.

The process is supported by CILIP’s online resources and tools, but there is an added layer of support through CILIP’s mentors who have each been through Professional Registration and can offer personal experience and guidance. Mentors are a crucial part of Professional

Registration for many candidates, and candidates are encouraged to choose their own mentor to ensure they get the “right fit”.

Professional Registration is not only about demonstrating an individual’s professional development, it can also deliver benefits such as helping you to:

l Take the next step in your career. Widely recognised and respected, Professional Registration strengthens your CV and helps open up new opportunities and develop your current role;

l Increase your status. Professional registration demonstrates to employers and colleagues that you are committed to developing and maintaining the knowledge, skills and competency needed to meet today’s information needs;

l Increase recognition of your abilities, skills and experience. Once you have gained a level of Professional Registration you will be able to use the postnominals ACLIP (Certification), MCLIP (Chartership) or FCLIP (Fellowship) and you can be included on CILIP’s public register of practitioners;

l Increase your earnings. Gaining Certification, Chartership or Fellowship is an advantage to your career. High-earners are more likely to hold professional qualifications than low- earners: 64.8 per cent of our workforce earning £40,000 or more hold a professional qualification.

Routes into the profession As well as offering an opportunity to boost your career through Professional Registration, CILIP has been instrumental in offering new routes into the profession. A Level 3 Apprenticeship is helping a new generation of information professionals to take their first steps in their career. Next year will see the launch of a Level 7 Apprenticeship, offering even more people the chance to join the profession or gain qualifications and skills while on the job.

Digital future

Over the coming months CILIP is looking to roll out a new digital experience for all of its members, including a new website and improved user experience. The aim is to create a digital platform where members can easily access services, events and training while connecting with colleagues from across the profession. There has been considerable

development work taking place over the last 12 months, and part of that includes piloting a new Online Community platform for CILIP’s Public and Mobile Libraries Group (PMLG). The online PMLG Community allows members of
