deliver its own advocacy messages, it is important that you can be part of that advocacy work too which is why we recently launched CILIP Connect.

Advocacy your way

CILIP Connect is a toolkit aimed at anyone working in or with an interest in the information professions. It provides practical and effective advice and tools to help you join the conversation with key decision makers at local and national level. The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to highlight the varied ways that library and information services can support communities, improve health outcomes and grow the economy. Your voice counts and CILIP Connect is a fantastic new member-only benefit that enables you to be heard.

Find out more about the toolkit at

www.cilip.org.uk/CILIP-Connect. Adding your own service’s successes to the Libraries Change Lives interactive map is another great way for you to demonstrate the value of libraries to the wider world. The map is open to all types of information services from all sectors and each new addition contributes to a growing evidence base to demonstrate the work being done

to deliver positive change throughout society.

An unknown future

Also launched within the last year is CILIP’s Come rain or shine, which provides a step-by-step guide to planning future services. The report offers an insight into how to plan for unseen events, using scenarios to help services prepare for possible futures. Giving managers and staff a clear understanding of how different outcomes could affect the way services are delivered. Come rain or shine puts an emphasis on long-term planning, helping to shape current decision-making while keeping an eye on how decisions taken now will flow into the future. The key aim is to

ensure services have resilience built-in and can react and respond to change in a controlled way.

Invest in yourself

Looking to the future is just as important for individuals as it is for the services they deliver, and CILIP is continuing to support your professional development. Taking time to invest in your own skills can be the best commitment you make to your career, helping you into new roles and giving you the confidence to take on additional responsibilities and experiences.

CILIP offers a rolling programme of online and in-person events and training designed to fit your needs. From webinars and conferences to specially
