Professional Registration Support Professional Registration Support forms an important part of the work of the Regional CILIP Networks. Sian King, who is vice-chair of CILIP RPG, has been the Professional Registration Support Officer for Wales for four years. She recently updated the CILIP RPG team on the CILIP Cymru Wales Conference in Cardiff which included the workshop she organised on Professional Registration. Sian covered all aspects of the process in the workshop and tailored the content to suit the participants, who included professionals thinking about enrolling, those who were just about to get going as well as a member interested in revalidation. The session was very interactive. Lloyd Roderick, a member of the Professional Registration Panel, joined the session to give the assessor’s view.

Sian commented on the network linking up the Professional Registration Support Officers (PRSOs), saying: “There are around 14 PRSOs covering the regions in England and each of the devolved nations. We meet

regularly and devise a programme of training which can be viewed on the CILIP website. These are free to CILIP members and, over the last four years, have been mostly delivered online and been well attended. Doing a face-to-face session felt quite different and, in many ways, more valuable to the candidates but of course the online sessions are often more convenient and involve no travel! The PRSOs also answer queries, via a forum, about the actual process of completing the Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB), gathering and reflecting on evidence to meet the three key criteria and submitting the final portfolio. It’s a very rewarding voluntary role, and many of the PRSOs are also mentors, although this is not a requirement. There are currently vacancies for PRSOs in some regions, including London. Support is given by CILIP, so if you are interested in applying please contact memberservices@cilip.org.uk”.
