Green is go for Scot libraries gathering
CILIP Scotland is holding a Green Libraries Gathering at the end of the month to mark Scotland’s Climate Week 2023. The free event takes place online on 29 September and features a range of speak- ers, presentations, and practical advice on how to reduce services’ environmen- tal impact. The event begins with a look the National Library of Scotland’s plan to create a Carbon Literacy for Libraries Toolkit, which has been supported by the CILIPS Research Fund. A presentation looking at Edinburgh Napier University’s Lion’s Gate project
will show how libraries can create biodi- verse spaces in difficult places. The project (
https://blogs.napier.ac.uk/thelionsgate) saw an unused patch of land transformed into an oasis of green for library users to enjoy. There will also be a presentation from Glasgow Women’s Library on its Beacon of hope: visioning the libraries of the future project, which looks at how library services can thrive in a low-carbon future. Scottish Book Trust will also look at what steps services can take as they look to develop sustainable collections. CILIPS’ Kirsten MacQuarrie said: “For Scotland’s Climate Week 2023, please join
CILIP Scotland as we celebrate two years of our pioneering programme #CILIPS- GoGreen with our online Green Libraries Gathering, filled with inspiring opportunities for Green Champions in LIS to collaborate, connect and reflect on library-led environ- mental action.” Book your free place at

Libraries Week takes place from 2-8 October and all library and information services are invited to take part and share their work to a wider audience. Just visit https://librarie-
