THIS comprehensive, updated list of CILIP accredited courses is possibly the best starting point for anyone looking to further their understanding of the sector and bol- ster their career prospects. The list below only includes courses tak- ing on new students and there have been some changes this year.
Sadly, after a long tradition of teach- ing library and information studies at the University, Northumbria University has closed its course to new students. Alumni include Liz Jolly, Chief Librarian
at the British Library, and Luke Burton, Director, Libraries, Arts Council England (see pp. 26-29). However, students who are currently enrolled on the course will not be affected and the course remains accredited.
Meanwhile a new course launches this autumn at the University of Manchester, the MA Library and Archive Studies, which is in the process of accreditation and which is set to complete in 2024. For more information and links to all their webpages visit:

Cranfield has two CILIP accredited courses, one of which focuses on understanding and articulating the executive-level responses to serious present and emerging threats in the information domain and enables the student to gain an organisational view of cyber, the domain, the drivers and constraints. The other tackles the need to understand the strategic importance of information and develop agile, effective and secure ways to exploit it to its full potential. To do this, effective information capa- bility management must be developed throughout the organisation so that the right information is available to the right people at the right time in an effective, efficient and secure manner.
Northumbria University (iSchool) The Department of Computer and Informa- tion Sciences offers Masters in Information Science focusing on Data Analytics. This course combines traditional modules in information science, such as information organisation and access, user behaviour, and information systems and technol ogies with specialised modules that focus on data analytics aspects such as how to design and manip ulate databases, and analysing big data in order to improve business/organisa- tional decision making. This course is designed equally for those who are already information professionals in businesses/organisations and those who are looking to break into the sector for the first time.
