Accredited Courses
Why accredited courses?
When students pick a CILIP accredited course what is it that underpins the quality assurance? Here we take a brief look at the value of accreditation.
CILIP accreditation stands for quality. By choosing a CILIP accredited course, learners can feel confident that the con- tent is high quality and has been tested against the professional standard by an independent assessor. The process assures students that courses provide an excellent preparation for profes- sional practice and will be a strong foundation for anybody entering the library, data, infor- mation, and knowledge sectors.
Confidence
Students can choose academic courses with confidence, knowing that there is coverage of essential skills and knowledge, which has been rigorously assessed. And it means that students who successfully complete a course accredited by CILIP are recognised as having studied a broad range of academic core skills and knowledge which will provide them with a significant contribution towards the attainment of Professional Registration, including Chartership (MCLIP) and Fellow- ship (FCLIP).
Why does accreditation matter? The process of accreditation ensures that CILIP’s knowledge and understanding is put to good use and means that courses are professionally relevant.
The library, data, information and knowl- edge domain has expanded and changed in recent years and continues to do so.

Development in technologies and information resources continue to broaden the range and the scope of the discipline. Accreditation ensures that students and learners can select the courses which enable them to acquire the essential knowledge and skills to obtain roles and develop careers within their chosen profession.
All bases covered
Accreditation certifies quality learning and delivery as well as relevance to the employment market. This standard is currently met by using five assessment criteria that learning providers need their courses to meet in order to be accred- ited by CILIP.
