RPG, in common with other SIGs... will focus on building a strong community network, supporting diversity and strengthening professionalism.

Y way of introduction, I have been closely involved with RPG since retiring in 2013 – a fantastic way of

“giving something back” to our profession, as well as keeping the brain active and maintaining contact with Information Professionals!

In addition, I have done a Ph.D. in book history, become a trustee for a number of charities, am a school governor and have set up and catalogued a small specialist library. For CILIP, I have been a mentor for 17 years and am now also the Professional Registration Support Officer for Wales. RPG is a CILIP Special Interest Group (SIG). We are planning an ambitious set of priorities for 2022 to reflect some of the new CILIP strategic objectives as outlined in CILIP’s refreshed Statement of Purpose:

1. Strengthening professionalism 2. Building Knowledge communities 3. Supporting leadership at every level

4. A diverse, inclusive and representative profession 5. Advocating for our profession 6. Growing our membership

RPG, in common with other SIGs and regional/devolved nation groups, will focus on building a strong community network, supporting diversity and strengthening professionalism. Our plans for 2022 closely match CILIP’s priorities as follows:

Building Knowledge Communities

and Growing our Membership RPG actions for 2022:

l A programme of monthly visits throughout the summer (free or donations invited);

l A programme of bi-monthly virtual visits throughout the year;

l An annual lunch at the Civil Service Club in London, open to all CILIP members and staff;

l A three-day residential visit within the UK including outings to local places of interest;

l Work in partnership with other SIGs March 2022

and regional/devolved nation groups eg support Anthony Thompson award (with ILIG) and running a Professional Registration Workshop (with CILIP Cymru Wales);

l Monthly newsletter promoting RPG activities and a linked entry in CILIP’s fortnightly Newsletter email to all members;

l Setting up a 100 club, following expressions of interest.

Building Knowledge Communities

and Growing our Membership RPG actions for 2022:

l Ensuring our Committee members include representation from minority groups;

l Opening our events to all age groups by advertising widely and writing this column;

l Not forgetting those without internet access by issuing our journal Post-Lib in print once per year;

l Keeping events low cost or free, to encourage inclusivity;

l Listening to our membership by encouraging informal feedback.

Strengthening professionalism RPG actions for 2022:

l Offering online workshops to build on the popular 2021 Knowledge Café events;

l Promoting and supporting opportunities for those not working full time: using lifelong experience of our members eg mentoring for CILIP professional registration.

l Continuing publication of two electronic issues and one printed issue of the journal Post-Lib. Sending to our members, but also making it available to all CILIP members.

l Liaising with CILIP Regional and Devolved Nation Groups more pro- actively by asking them to include RPG representatives on their Committee

l High profile presence at CILIP Annual Conference.

In order to align with CILIP’s objectives RPG is not tempted to drift off “to do its own thing”. Rather, we try to ensure that a member of our committee is represented not only on

regional/devolved nation committees but also on the CILIP strategic groups. In 2021, our voice was heard in the Big Conversation online event and, perhaps more importantly, at a focus group led by Nick Poole and Gemma Wood which resulted in a very useful exchange of information regarding CILIP’s responses to our members. By engaging with CILIP planning processes RPG strongly identifies with #WeAreCILIP”.
