send them to the Seagrass Lab at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth for germination (where you can watch the seagrass grow), and then plant the healthy seedlings in the right places out at sea, in little biodegradable hessian bags. To showcase the work of ReMEDIES
and increase awareness of seagrass, Eden and Natural England’s Hidden Seas team produced the animated film Underwater Heroes. On show in the Core, and
edenproject.com/seagrass, it features the voices of broadcaster and marine biologist Monty Halls, and marine conservationist Dr Imogen Napper, both of whom are passionate public advocates for ocean health. Underwater Heroes is a call to action
and a practical guide for beachgoers, snorkellers, divers and recreational boaters. It emphasises that everyone can make a difference, no matter how near or far, by reducing the potential for pollution to enter waterways. And with the national sewage and water pollution crisis, understanding its far-reaching consequences has never been more important. Together we can protect and restore magnificent seagrass habitats.
Underwater Heroes was created by Owl’n’Wolf studio and includes footage provided by the ReMEDIES team as well as archive material and historical, scientific illustrations from the British Library, the Biodiversity Heritage Library and the Prelinger Collection. ReMEDIES is funded by the EU LIFE programme and led by Natural England in partnership with the Royal Yachting Association, Marine Conservation Society, Ocean Conservation Trust and Plymouth City Council/Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum.

How to help Seagrass
Become a citizen scientist: Get involved in projects like Seagrass Watch, and download the SeagrassSpotter app.
Volunteer at Save Our Seabed or dive for Seasearch.
Take care at the coast Check online for seagrass sites at MPA Reality Check.
When swimming or diving, keep off the bottom to avoid disturbing the sediment. Pick up your rubbish and dog poo.
Be a responsible boater Take it easy and avoid the shallows.
Use seagrass-friendly moorings, e.g. floating tethers and screw anchors.
Always respect no-anchor zones.
Reduce pollution, near and far Be careful what you wash down the drain, flush away, or put on the garden.
