UNDER CONSTRUCTION Community Center Repurpose
The facility formerly known as the “Avondale Community Center” is currently being renovated and repurposed for use as a Parks and Recreation facility. The renovated facility will have a
state-of-the-art Esports (electronic sports) room where people can videogame together, a multi- purpose room, an arts and crafts room, a conference room, an outdoor patio, and a catering kitchen. In addition, the main lobby will be a welcoming area for young people and teens to gather after school to hang out or participate in activities. The community center has been renamed the Mountain View Community Center and is located at 1007 S. 3rd Street.
Traffic Signal and Intersection Improvements
The traffic signal and intersection improvements at Avondale Boulevard and Lower Buckeye Road will include the installation of a traffic signal and corner ramps, improving traffic flow on both streets and access to Phoenix Raceway and South Avondale. The traffic signal will be placed in its final location to account for the future addition of traffic lanes along both Avondale Boulevard and Lower Buckeye Road.
Avondale Boulevard Widening Project
This project will complete the widening along the west side of Avondale Boulevard from McDowell Road to Encanto Boulevard. When completed, this portion of Avondale Boulevard
will have two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes and a center turn lane to provide better traffic flow in this busy area of the city.
Parking Improvements at Fire Station 172
Parking improvements are being completed at Fire Station 172 located at 1825 N. 107th Avenue. This project involves the addition of a secured parking lot north of the fire station to provide sufficient parking for police staff and squad vehicles as well as providing additional storm drainage for N. 107th Avenue, adjacent to parking.
