RENOVATION PROJECTS :
Old Town Phase II Project Budget - $6,500,000
Recently completed, the improvements to two neighborhoods in Old Town (Del Monte and Goodale Unit 2) included all new water services, complete replacement of the streets, additional accessible crossings and more streetlights.
Dennis DeConcini Park Project Budget - $2,800,000
The City continues to invest in Western Avenue in Old Town with the complete renovation of DeConcini Park this spring. New amenities include fully accessible walking paths, a ninja exercise course, and a new playground. The ramadas are being replaced and the basketball court will be resurfaced. Visitors can also enjoy all new turf areas and improved signage. Funded in part by the American Rescue Plan Act, the project also received a $500,000 Heritage Grant from Arizona State Parks & Trails.
HAWK Improvements Project Budget – $1,645,000
Throughout the summer and fall, High intensity Activated crossWalK pedestrian crossing beacons will be installed at five locations. The HAWK beacon is not illuminated until it is activated by a pedestrian, triggering the warning flashing yellow lens on the major street. After a set amount of time, the indication changes to a solid yellow light to inform drivers to prepare to stop. The beacon then displays a dual solid red light to drivers on the major street and a walking person symbol to pedestrians. At the conclusion of the walk phase, the beacon displays an alternating flashing red light, and pedestrians are shown an upraised hand symbol with a countdown display informing them of the time left to cross. During the alternating flashing red lights, drivers can proceed after coming to a full stop and checking that pedestrians have already crossed their lane of travel. Each successive driver is legally required to come to a full stop before proceeding during the alternating flashing red phase.
The locations are:
` Avondale Blvd at Palm Lane ` El Mirage Road and Pima Street ` Coldwater Springs Blvd and 118th Ave ` Central Avenue and Holly Lane ` El Mirage Road and the north Alamar Park parking lot
