hearty thumbs up!

Avondale was selected in 2017 for the prestigious All-America City Award, an honor specifically awarded to our city for demonstrating civic engagement by helping young children achieve grade-level reading proficiency and early school success. Programs offered year- round through our libraries demonstrate our support in this initiative.

Reading is fundamental for developing literacy skills. Studies suggest that reading for 20 minutes a day helps build a strong lifelong reading habit.

During the summer months the Sam Garcia Western Avenue and Civic Center Libraries will be rockin’ with the popular Summer Reading program. This year’s Summer Reading program theme is "Libraries Rock!" Find out more about Avondale library programs offered by visiting our local libraries. More information on library programs is available on page 2.

Also in RAVE, find out more about unique local businesses that will get your mouth watering for American cuisine. From burgers and fries to apple pie, there's no shortage of uniquely Avondale establishments serving up appetizing home-style cooking. This Uniquely Avondale spread

features All-American cuisines. See page 14 for details.

Turn to page 29 (inside back cover) for details about upcoming patriotic events. Celebrate Independence Day, July 4th, with a new event hosted at Friendship Park, called Waterpalooza. Pay homage to those that have served in the military by attending our traditional Memorial Day sunset ceremony hosted May 28th at Avondale City Hall Amphitheater.
