TAPA EMEA recently delivered its first Driver Training course for employees of HUETTER Spedition + Logistik GmbH in Öhringen, Germany, which operates a fleet of 30 tractor units and 40 trailers. Conducted in strict accordance with the current pandemic provisions and restrictions, the course is designed to increase the safety of drivers by increasing their risk awareness and understanding of how to react to criminal threats.


Vigilant spoke to Holger Hufen, Key Account Manager at HUETTER for his feedback on the training...


Who took part in the training?


30 of our employees; notably 17 drivers, 11 office/garage/mechanics employees, plus our 2 managing partners.


As the first company to experience the training, how would you assess the value of the content?


Markus Prinz, Senior Manager, Trainings & Standards, provided a perfect training course. It was a very good mix of background information, the TAPA history, security and driver awareness training using video clips, and insight into the type of incidents which have occurred. It has helped us a lot towards achieving our goal of TSR Level 1 certification.


How will the course improve your drivers’ safety and security awareness?


Although our team receives already regular trainings in terms of transportation of secured air cargo and pharmaceutical products, this training gave an extra insight into what has to be considered for the transport of high value theft targeted (HVTT) cargo. There´s more to it than going from A to B and our staff received a very good picture of what can happen while the goods are in our trucks and how the criminals are working. We received very positive feedback after the training from our drivers. It became very clear that this isn´t

just a game and just another certification. This is real and real theft and robbery can happen anywhere, anytime.


Is it important to have training by specialists who understand your business?


I´d say it is vital for the acceptance of the training content and the trainer. It’s good to have a trainer who has been there and seen it, and who knows what they’re talking about. Markus clearly explained what the TAPA TSR regulations are based on and what that means in real life, no matter if you are a driver, an operations planner or MD. This is why we invited not only our drivers to the training. We had staff members from almost all our departments in the training. It is not only the driver who is in charge. It is the whole team and, as such, we all need to know what we have to do.


What is your view of TAPA’s TSR Standard?


Due to the fact that we have already been audited and certified according to different


standards (ISO, GDP, secured air-cargo plus several individual customer demands and audits), we have already achieved or even overachieved some of the TSR standards (e.g. storage of documentation, SOPs, locking devices etc.). Nevertheless, the TSR has challenged us with even higher Standards too. It helped us to make our processes even stronger and gave also additional focus on our equipment. This standard is vital as it is a well-known, accredited and global standard. Holding this certificate is a symbol of the highest quality and security for the customer.


How is being TSR Level 1 certified going to help your company?


HUETTER Spedition + Logistik GmbH have been in the road transport business for pharmaceutical products since 2017 and, in the last year, we have also started intense sales activities to promote our services in this sector. From various conversations with clients and potential customers, we have noticed that there is a demand for secured transport on the market. But only a few transport companies can provide this under an accredited and standardised system like TAPA TSR. So, for us it was clear that, in addition to all the certifications and qualifications we already hold, TSR Level 1 offered another valued assurance and service to our current and future customers, including extending our business scope in regards to consumer electronics, high value goods or brand- protection.
