Will remote audits continue to be a recertification option after travel restrictions are relaxed and Independent Audit Bodies can visit locations once again?

My FSR 2014 Level B certificate originally expired in May 2020. As travel was not allowed, the certificate was officially extended in line with TAPA guidelines. The site was scheduled and prepared to be recertified to the FSR 2017 version. Now FSR 2020 has been released but I did not budget for an upgrade to the FSR 2020 version. Which version is applicable for the recertification and is a remote audit permitted?


Answer: As your original certificate expired before 1 July 2020, you have the option to recertify to either the 2017 or 2020 versions of FSR. If your original certificate had expired after 30 June, then you would have had to recertify to the 2020 version. The new certificate will be backdated to the original certificate expiry date plus 3 years. Contact your Independent Audit Body and discuss if your location is eligible for a remote recertification audit.


Question 4.


I do not need a recertification but I have a new facility ready for a first time TAPA FSR certification. Can I request a remote audit?


Answer: Unfortunately, no. Remote audits are not currently available for new locations. TAPA is only willing to support recertification audits as the Independent Audit Body will have knowledge of the location and archive information of the operations. However, TAPA is exploring the possibility to expand remote audits to cover all audit types and will provide updates on this in future communications.


Answer: This has yet to be agreed. We are initially dealing with the issue of the recertification backlog. Going forward, we will evaluate and, most likely, continue with remote audits as an option, but it may be in a modified format.


TAPA is committed to ensuring we maintain a robust certification service to support our Supply Chain Security Standards. Remote and virtual audits will be evaluated and may be introduced as new TAPA certification options to also help expand the number of TAPA certified locations.
