LEADERSHIP UPDATE TAPA STANDARDS

BUILDING THE TAPA BRAND WITH EMEA REGION STAKEHOLDERS

Thorsten Neumann, President & CEO of TAPA for the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region, shares the latest update on some of his and the Association’s latest activities aimed at accelerating TAPA EMEA’s growth, development and influence, and delivering more benefits to our growing membership…

YOU ARE THE VOICE OF THE CUSTOMER THAT PARKING PLACE OPERATORS NEED TO HEAR

Obviously, we’d all like to see more shiny new secure truck parking sites opening in EMEA but if we are to make a serious inroad into increasing the supply of these parkings to help reduce cargo thefts, the reality is that we have to get more engaged with existing Parking Place Operators (PPOs). We need these PPOs to be aware of the needs of their customers, what the buyers of secure parking want in terms of security requirements, and the solution we can offer with our Parking Security Requirements (PSR).

TAPA will not be the only one to make a contribution towards solving this situation – and that’s good news too. I say, once again, this is not a competition. It is an industry-wide challenge facing Manufacturers and Logistics Service Providers, and we must all think about what we can do to get more parking places to share our way of thinking.

The EU’s Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas standard will also be welcome, when it is finally completed and officially approved, as it complements the work TAPA is doing to grow secure parking capacity. When the EU is ready,

CUSTOMER SPEAKING

we hope the alignment of both standards will be a catalyst to accelerate the number of secure parking places available to our members and industry-at-large.

In the meantime, PSR is leading the way - but we have a very long way to go to help create the number of secure parking places we need, as TAPA’s Steve McHugh and Ionel Popa explain in this issue. However, we are greatly encouraged by what we have achieved so far and plan to grow our activities further in 2021. As you will have read, we have over 1,000 parking sites in our database to assess and approach, and we are constantly adding more.

The owners and operators of these sites, like all successful businesspeople, will need to be convinced of the demand we say exists for security parking. Ultimately, they must be confident of the financial benefit of meeting the requirements we are calling for.

I am sure a great many of those PPOs will choose to join our PSR programme for very sound commercial reasons. Of course, nothing beats money in the bank from more parking place bookings, but the statements of support for TAPA and PSR we have published in this issue, from a broad cross-section of our members, are a great asset too which we will use in all of our approaches to PPOs. These companies are the voice of the customer or other PPOs, and their comments will resonate with the people we now need to influence.

Special thanks go to the TAPA members which have already stated their support. All I would say to everyone else, is please keep these types of positive statements coming. The more we have, the stronger our message will be. Send your testimonials to info@tapaemea.org Every single one is important to us.
