Gruentjes, and Executive Director Standards, Steve McHugh After receiving a steady stream of questions about TAPA’s Security Standards from Audit Bodies and our members, we feel it will be beneficial to share some of the questions received and the responses given by the TAPA EMEA Standards Team. We aim to cover 3-5 questions in Vigilant each month.


Question 1.


I have several TAPA Facility Security Requirements (FSR) certified facilities where the certificate expiry date was extended because the auditor could not travel and we were not permitting any external visitors to the site. How do I trigger the remote audit process?


Answer: Contact your Independent Audit Body and discuss if your location is eligible for a remote recertification audit.


TAPA APPROVES REMOTE RECERTIFICATION AUDITS GLOBALLY TO SUPPORT MEMBERS DURING COVID DISRUPTION


Covid-19 safety measures and travel restrictions look likely to remain in place for some time and have already led to the postponement of most TAPA recertifications because external auditors are unable to travel or cannot gain access to many TAPA certified locations.


No one can accurately predict when the restrictions will be relaxed but indications are that most countries and organisations will continue with some special measures in place into 2021.


TAPA has responded to this situation by extending the dates of many of the expiring


certificates. However, the backlog of locations requiring recertification continues to grow and we felt we had to do something to help this situation. TAPA has, therefore, agreed to allow our Independent Audit Bodies to conduct remote certification audits for qualifying locations that require recertification. This option has been available in the Americas region for some months but has now also become an option in the APAC and EMEA regions too.


In this month’s FAQs, we answer some of the questions we have received about how the remote recertification audits should work.

Question 2.


Is the remote audit option also available for TAPA’s Trucking Security Requirements (TSR)?


Answer: Both the FSR and TSR Standards are eligible for remote Independent Audit Body recertification.
