GENERAL MANAGERS WELCOME

elcome to the June edition of Fore & Aft, I very much hope that you find

the contents both interesting and informative. In the March issue we announced the 2017 finalists of the Marina of the Year awards and I am now very pleased to announce that NMU have agreed to sponsor the 2018 awards which will be known as the NMU Marina of the Year awards. NMU are part of the Munich Re Group, as are GJW, and provide specialist business insurance to the marine trade. The awards are now open to nominations through the MOTY website www.marinaawards.com so if your marina is Gold Anchor accredited then it’s time to give your customers the opportunity to vote for your marina. The recent TYHA AGM was

held at one of London’s’ fascinating historic gems, Watermans Hall which is the home of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames founded in 1555. Watermen carry passengers whilst Lightermen carry goods and cargo. The building, designed by William Blackburn, dates from 1780 providing a wonderful ambience

welcomed and voted in Simon Haigh as the new Chairman of the TYHA Board. I would like to personally thank Sarah for her hard work and support and welcome Simon into his new role. Over past editions of F&A I have

for the business of the AGM. Our thanks go to the team at Watermans Hall for their hospitality and insights into the organisation. During the AGM proceedings, the

members present voted in three new TYHA Council members Dean Smith of MDL, Jeff Whyatt of BWML and Chris Windsor of Dover Marina. These appointments represent an important addition to the Council bringing input from the largest coastal and inland marina groups and from a significant UK port. Upon her retirement from

Chairing TYHA, Sarah Hanna was thanked by Colin Watts on behalf of the Directors and Council members who presented her with a commemorative plaque and a gift. Following this the members

made numerous references to generational change and the Future Customer project. Working alongside British Marine and their appointed consultant Liz Rushall on the project has been a fascinating experience. Our growing insights into the needs and wants of the future consumer is leading towards a strategy for British Marine and TYHA on how best we support our members to adapt their businesses in our changing world. It is no coincidence that the changing face of the London Boat show is designed to capture the interest of Millennials, the consumer group who are destined to have the largest spending power of any generational cohort.

Enjoy the June edition of Fore & Aft and I wish you every success for the summer.
