entirely by the village and run by a board of elected Harbour Commissioners, the dredging was funded by the harbour itself, and will ensure that the marina continues to welcome and give safe haven to visiting yachts (of up to 60ft) from all over the world, as well as keeping the marina in great condition for our regular berth holders.

have been planning this dredge for over a year now - it takes a lot of planning and paperwork to undertake a job such as this, and without the backing of local authority staff to do the admin for us, it has been left to myself and the Harbour Commissioner to ensure the proper licenses were in place and that the relevant authorities were informed. The admin, along with a sizeable financial investment in such an operation, means that dredging is no mean feat, but the Harbour Commissioners are focused on the proper maintenance of Whitehills Marina, both now and into the future." The dredge was undertaken

initially by local contractor David Smith, who used his 60ft long- reach excavator to dig out sand from the channel into Whitehills Harbour. Despite some blowy weather, the job was successful. This was followed by a visit by the Selkie, The Moray Council's new dredger, just launched on 2016, and four loads of silt were taken from the outer basin to an approved dumpsite just east of Macduff. Harbourmaster Bertie Milne

was on the pier and onboard the dredger with his camera to document the progress along the way, and here are some of his images.
