SIDEWALK OVER THE OCEAN WILL CONNECT THE ALBUFEIRA TOWN CENTER TO THE MARINA
T
he Marina de Albufeira will be connected to the city center, namely by the
area of the Peneco beach, by a sidewalk over the ocean, that will work as a new tourism attraction and simultaneously allow a substantial improvement of the pedestrian mobility between the two city areas, that despite geographically close, present connection difficulties due to obstacles in the field. João Amaral, Marina de
Albufeira Administrator, explained one of the National News Paper, The Jornal de Noticias, that there have been some meetings with the City Hall, in order to assure that the passageway is ready by the Summer of 2018. The project dates back to 2010,

of 3,8 million euros and it will be a candidate to European funds – will allow the users to walk the 400 meters distance in about 10 minutes, walking 9,40 meters above the Chart datum and enjoying a privileged view of the coast.
Safe from the elements João Amaral highlights that, when the maritime sidewalk is up and running, will also be very important to the Marina that is
currently on an expansion stage. “When the housing
developments are complete, there must be around four thousand residents that will for sure take advantage of the new sidewalk for a more direct access to the city centre”, he explains. On the other hand, the project,
that is also included in the “Plano de Ordenamento da Orla Costeira” (Development Plan of the Coastal Area), was thought in such a way that allows it to be safeguarded from the elements. “Initially the study we made was so that it could be built by the cliffs, but due to environmental issues and to prevent collapse, it was altered to this location”, concludes the administrator.
