DROUGHT IN THE BRAZILIAN SOUTHEAST The drought in the Brazilian Southeast is severe. The last relevant rain in the interior of Brazil, including São Paulo, was in the first half of April. Both the Southeast and Midwest regions have been practically without rain since April. So, other crops such as coffee and states like Minas Gerais are suffering.


THE NEWS OF FIRES IN FIELDS IN BRAZIL SHOULD NOT BE A SURPRISE AS THE GROUND IS EXTREMELY DRY IN MANY PLACES, INCLUDING PARTS OF THE STATE OF SAO PAULO, THE MAJOR CANE GROWING STATE.


Brazil Centre-South cane harvest in 23/24 was fantastic, with very high agri yields not expected to be repeated in the next couple of years. Brazil harvested 654 mln m/t of cane and produced 42,4 mln m/t of sugar. The current crop i.e. 24/25 may drop to less than 610 mln m/t, even taking into consideration an increase in land estimated from 1% to 3%. The current sugar production estimates range from as low as 37sh mln m/t to 41,4 mln m/t, with most estimating around 40 mln m/t.


Depending on the rains from September (nothing in sight yet), the 24/25 bad crop could be worse and we could have some issues for the 25/26 crop. Let’s not panic yet, but be alert.
