BATTLE LINES BEING DRAWN? THE HUAWEI PROBLEM


Previously in The Ghost in the Machine I have written about the effects of social media on commodity driven business as well as the tenuous relationship between the United States and China.


 Wanzhou, presented no better example of the link between knowledge   reverse at the end of the session. At the same time the S&P 500 mirrored the steep declines in Asia and Europe, creating a worldwide reaction. A further feature of this story is that her arrest happened on the same day that President Trump and President Xi met and agreed a 90 day trade truce, thus creating the expectation that this could further  have explored in those two previous articles is not just something in a still distant future, but is in fact presenting itself currently, and so the idea that we could be heading towards a digital cold war is anything but as far-fetched as it might appear.


In a world where our current economy is increasingly  connected than ever. No longer are net migration and demographics of such great importance, in the current climate of very rapid change, our service economies are contributing to lower costs and can  we are seeing countries like the United States and Britain adopt an ever increasingly protectionist  and is a leading company in 5G communication developments. As such it has been investing heavily in overseas opportunities to supply 5G infrastructure and hardware. Yet the Chinese company has found itself being banned from some of the largest world economies; USA, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. The UK and Germany are also weighing up decisions to put in place restrictions, due to security concerns  technology to create a surveillance web across the globe and therefore spy on countries.


It is important to note that no Chinese company is fully independent of its government and to make  relationship is masked. It also has a reputation of being very secretive, with the founder Ren Zhengfei, rarely speaking out in public, and not to mention his history as a technologist in the People’s Liberation  Chinese government would have any ability to use their products as a means to spy, the US and allied governments have all taken the steps to restrict and ban them trading within certain areas.
