The Historical Association, in collaboration with the Spirit of Normandy Trust (dedicated to education about the historical signifi cance of World War II), is asking pupils to write about history in an incisive, interesting and critical way for its annual awards. Pupils aged 11-19 are asked to investigate, analyse and write about a topic in local history, the modern world, World War I or any aspects of 20th-century history. Primary-aged children are invited to think about local history, the ancient world and British involvement in World War II. If you think your students could be the next Margaret MacMillan or Antony Beevor, make sure they enter before 24 July. The UK Mathematics Trust Senior Mathematical Challenge comprises a 90-minute multiple-choice paper, designed to make students think using mathematical reasoning. It also tests precision of thought and fluency in using basic techniques to solve interesting problems. The highest performers in the challenge will be awarded bronze, silver and gold certificates, and around 1,000 high performers will be invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. ukmt.org.uk/ competitions/solo/senior-mathematical-challenge-paper

The RSPB Wild Challenge is a series of 24 activities in which pupils apply their curriculum knowledge and skills while developing resilience through practical outdoor learning. Activities are divided into two sections: Help Nature and Experience Nature. Join in the annual global celebration of popular children’s author Road Dahl this September. There are activities, lesson plans, classrooms resources and inspiring ideas. UK Space Design Competition

The UK Space Design Competition is a science, engineering and business challenge that aims to give students a taste of the vast potential offered by future study (or even a career) in STEM. Teams are given a list of requirements for a space settlement and tasked to come up with a design. Winning teams are invited to take part in the national final hosted by Imperial College London. A select group of winners will then be invited to go to the International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. uksdc.org
