FOR BETTER HEALTH MORE HYBRID SWEET CORN. Shumway’s Sensational Supersweet Series.
As the name implies, these varieties are especially sweet. These are all hybrids containing the sh2 endosperm gene which has been around since 1956 and has created a sweet corn revolution. The conversion of sugar to starch is considerably slower both on the stalk and after picking. Since the seeds are shrunken, there are substantially more seeds per pound. These varieties REQUIRE ISOLATION by at least 250 ft. in each direc- tion. Cross-pollination will seriously affect the eating quality. For good germination, plant the seeds after the soil has reached 80°F.

Fully Sugary Enhanced Family.
Shumway’s is proud to offer American home gardeners this family of “Fully Sugary-Enhanced (se+)” Sweet Corn varieties, combining a remarkably tender kernel with unbelievably sweet flavor that lasts up to 14 days after harvest.
Our se+ family, bred for us by Crookham Company of Idaho, is a hybrid cross between two varieties with EH genes. The resulting homozygous se+ hybrid corn combines and improves on the best qualities of each parent:
• Much increased tenderness. Far more tender than any of our EH Series. • Improved sweetness. Sweetness equal to, or slightly more than, any other member of the EH Series. • Slow conversion of sugar to starch. Delayed conversion means you can pick your corn today, then wait up to two weeks before preparing it without any appreciable loss of its classic sweet flavor! • Does not require isolation from normal (su) varieties. However, it does require isolation from (sh2) supersweet types and popcorn.
Try all four this spring for a delicious experience in sweet corn eating!
