“God knew when it would be good for me to move,” Betty Musser says as she sits on the patio at Mountain View Terrace taking a break from emptying her boxes in her new first-floor apartment.

S

he spent most of her life living in Bowmansville, PA, located about 10 miles north of the apartments on Welsh Mountain. Nearly 30 of those years were spent working at the nearby Shady Maple Market.

After her husband, Carl, passed away three years ago, she put her name on the waiting list for Mountain View Terrace. In the meantime, she had hip replacement surgery, making it even more important to be located where she did not need to use steps.

“I had two birds when Carl passed away. They were a big help to me and kept me company.”

“Even though I have just moved in, I am already feeling at home here,” she says. “Other residents have been so helpful. Whenever I am moving boxes and someone is in the parking lot, they ask if they can help! Plus, I never have to worry if I need something, there is always someone to call.”

Jane Wilt, Community Manager for Mountain View Terrace, notices how Betty immediately reaches out to people inviting them in to visit her and her parakeets, who have also made the move. “She moved in on a Friday,” Jane comments, “And by Tuesday was already inviting me in to meet her birds.

Parakeets are very social and can make great companions. Tis was important to Betty as she adjusted to the loss of her husband. “I had two birds when Carl passed away. Tey were a big help to me and kept me company. Ten a bird rescue organization had someone needing to give up a family of seven birds, so I added them. I love hearing them chirp and talk with each other.”

Betty looks forward to getting to know more of the residents at Mountain View Terrace and is excited to be in a location where she will see so many signs of nature right outside her door. “I am glad to be in these apartments where I can have my independence and also have others nearby. God has provided a great place for me and I am thankful.”

HDC MidAtlantic and Landis Communities share the common vision of providing quality housing for local seniors while prioritizing resident quality of life as they age. Currently, the organizations are partners at Mountain View Terrace where the operations team from HDC cares for resident needs and the building.
