CULTIVATING ARTISTRY

How Landis Place on King Curated a Gallery of Meaning

When Deb Laws-Landis first proposed using

Deb Laws-Landis and Lee Lovett with The Art Collection at Landis Place on King, a book they developed to showcase the art at LPK.

local artwork instead of generic catalog prints for Landis Homes Harvest View apartments built in 1995, it was a novel idea.

ut over the last 30 years, that bold vision has grown into something extraordinary—a living, breathing art collection that now spans over 1,500 original pieces across the Landis

Homes campus.

At Landis Place on King (LPK), that vision continues to flourish. Te downtown Lancaster residence for adults 55+ is home to another 100+ pieces of art owned by Landis Communities.

Now completing her final art project with Landis Communities, Deb reflects, “Residents at Landis Communities are just more aware of art. We don’t just hang prints to match the furniture. We choose art that you react to—pieces you love, and sometimes a piece you might not like at all. But that’s the point. It’s like music or food—it should make you feel something!”

Te LPK collection was developed with that very purpose: to evoke, to connect, and to reflect diversity. Working alongside Lee Lovett of Red Raven Art Company and community leader Elizabeth Soto, nearly 15 pieces per floor were carefully selected. Each artwork reflects themes from Lancaster’s rich cultural tapestry, including stunning textiles from West Africa and paintings by beloved regional artists like Freiman Stoltzfus.

Te art collection was celebrated on May 15 with an event reminiscent of an intimate gallery opening. Several of the artists were in attendance, and Landis Communities CEO, Larry Zook, shared remarks about the value of art in our everyday lives. Additionally, a book highlighting the collection was debuted. (Te Art Collection at Landis Place on King is available for purchase for those who wish to take home a showcase of the current LPK collection.)

One standout piece is a floral-inspired painting by Lee Lovett herself, a work that subtly reveals donor names from the City Vision Campaign when viewed up close. “Combining words with image is something I’ve always enjoyed,” says Lovett.

Landis Place on King isn’t just an apartment building—it’s an experience. It’s art with a heartbeat, offering residents the chance to not only live in the city but live inside a work of art.
