aised in Berks County, Suzy Lindenmuth was shaped by her parents’ dedication to their family business and
her mother’s strong guidance. Her mother was highly intelligent and instilled in Suzy the importance of keeping up with schoolwork and striving to be her best. Her father worked at the family appliance store, selling everything from stoves to the first televisions in Berks County. His work ethic left an imprint on Suzy.
Her great aunt Emma, one of the first nursing students at Reading Hospital, encouraged Suzy to pursue nursing, a decision that would shape her entire career. “She inspired me to become a nurse,” Suzy reflects. At just 17, Suzy enrolled at the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia and, after completing her training, became a nurse anesthetist. Over the next 40 years, she worked at Reading Hospital and Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she earned a stellar reputation. Among Suzy’s responsibilities were administering anesthesia, monitoring patients’ vital signs, making critical decisions, and standing up to doctors when necessary. “If I said something in a room, they listened,” she says.
Since Suzy’s retirement, her legacy in the field remains, especially with the many students she taught along the way. “When I taught students, I evaluated them, helped them learn, and shared everything I knew,” she says with pride.
Beyond work, Suzy found joy in traveling with her husband, Robert, to places like Hawaii,

Arizona, and Florida. “As long as I was with my husband, I had good memories,” she recalls. Tey shared a love for adventure and cherished every moment they spent together. Family was always at the heart of Suzy’s life, with two daughters, Karen, a nurse in New York, and Beth, who now lives with Suzy. She also shares a close bond with her grandson, Ryan.
In 2022, Suzy lost her husband, a blow that left her heartbroken. After moving to Beth’s home in Lancaster, Suzy initially hesitated about joining Landis Adult Day Services (ADS). “I gave it a try, and now I love it here,”
she says. Suzy’s sarcastic sense of humor has found a home at ADS, where the staff and fellow participants greet her with warmth and camaraderie. “Te companionship here is the best part. Te employees really want to be here, and that makes all the difference.”
Suzy believes in treating everyone with respect. Her life has been defined by a commitment to service, a passion for caring for others, and a relentless pursuit of positivity. Even now, Suzy continues to bring joy and laughter to those around her, living by the mantra, “Life is too short. You have to make the best of the circumstances you’re in.”
