Thriving
at Home, Together™
Dot Hartman, Landis Communities Director of Operations, with
Wes Newswanger and Janet Brenneman
Wes Newswanger and Janet Brenneman never thought paying bills would feel like a visit from a friend. But that’s exactly what it’s become since Lisa Gautsche from the Landis at Home Bookkeeping concierge service started coming by to help with organizing their finances.
KEEPING IN BALANCE I
“
t was Wes’s idea,” Janet says with a smile. “He’ll tell you he was
never great at keeping up with the checkbook, and let’s just say our memories haven’t exactly been getting better.” She laughs, “Now? It’s just a relief. We don’t have to worry.”
Enter Lisa, who brings more than just a calculator and a knack for numbers. “Lisa is so calm. So easygoing. I never feel nervous when she’s here. You can tell she cares, and she’s really, really good at what she does.”
Te help Lisa provides—balancing accounts, making sure money is where it needs to be, staying on top of bills—has done more than organize their finances. It’s lifted a burden. Janet says she used to handle the books for her mother, but lately, even managing her own had become stressful.
“Wes and Janet were looking for help keeping the checkbook up to date,” Lisa says. “From the start, they were just lovely people.” Over time, the working relationship has grown into something more. “One day recently, they didn’t have much for me to do, and since I didn’t have another appointment right away, we just had coffee and talked. Tat’s the kind of connection this work allows for.”
It’s that human side of the service that means the most. “It’s never a chore knowing Lisa is coming,” Janet says. “I actually look forward to it. I’d recommend her to anyone.”
What began as a practical solution has turned into a rhythm of support, trust, and friendship. A reminder that sometimes, the best help shows up with a smile, a spreadsheet, and time for coffee.
