Cultivating Artistry is a theme that resonates with the culture of Landis Communities.
ore than 30 years ago, the decision was made to not feature commercial art on the Landis Homes campus but to build an art collection to enhance the living experience for all residents. Along with pieces hung in hallways, lounges and eating venues, an art gallery was
established – first in Harvest View and now in Crossings – to feature work by local and resident artists on a rotating basis. Our 30 year partnership with Lancaster Mennonite School has added student art to the collection as well. A Resident Art Committee was formed to help oversee the selection and placement of many of the pieces. Landis Homes residents appreciate the collection and take indoor walks to experience the art placed throughout campus. From its inception, Deb Laws-Landis has been the force behind this initiative.
As Deb stepped down from her full-time Landis Communities Marketing role four years ago, she agreed to stay on part-time to continue overseeing art projects at Landis Homes and to create a similar experience for the residents of Landis Place on King. Working with members of the Lancaster art community in partnership with Lee Lovett of Red Raven Art Company and community leader Elizabeth Soto, a collection was curated to reflect the diverse neighborhood and residents of LPK (p.6-7). As Deb fully retires this summer, we want to extend our sincere appreciation for all she has done to make art a part of the unique experience of living in a Landis Communities location.
Art can also be reflected in the beauty of nature. Don’s story of his passion for the Pawpaw tree (p.8-9) is a wonderful example of how caring for God’s creation can be a blessing to many.
Troughout this issue of FLOURISH, I hope you are inspired by the residents and clients of Landis Communities. Teir stories of dedication, connection and service demonstrate the creativity and unique spirit of each individual and reflect our guiding values of joy, compassion, integrity, stewardship and community.
With gratitude,
