Norma and Lois Lois’s most vivid memory is of a time when a deer broke through the window into the kitchen.
“It was suppertime and I was called to come and help clean up after (the deer) ran through the kitchen. It happened as supper was being prepared, but fortunately the meal was in the oven and could still be served on time!” Game wardens were able to come and safely release the deer into the game lands.
Norma’s memory is more poignant.
“What stands out to me are the times when I worked with Glenda, an LPN, and we knew residents were in their last days or hours. We would go together to sing with them and pray with them,” said Norma. “We knew they were ready.”
Eventually, Norma and Lois built a house in the Akron area. Tey decided the style of their house would be similar to a Swiss chalet, a decision influenced by a trip to Europe. Tey, as well as Lois’s cousin Elta, moved from the staff house, in 1985.
