Mattie and Lois may have met later in life, but that hasn’t hindered the growth of a true friendship. Tey met on Lois’ first day at Welsh Mountain Home.
“Mattie was very friendly up front,” remembers Lois. “I knew she was genuine and someone that I could relate to… We’re basically inseparable.”
W
elsh Mountain Home has provided a place for Mattie and Lois to flourish and connect in ways they never expected. Prior to coming to Welsh Mountain Home, Mattie lived in her
car for four months. “I can’t express it,” she says, voice thick with emotion. “God is with me and He led me here. Tat is all that I can say. I’ve been happy ever since.”
Mattie shared that coming to Welsh Mountain Home allowed her to feel loved and accepted for the first time in a long time, especially by the staff.
Lois came to Welsh Mountain Home after her husband was moved to a nursing home following a stroke. After Lois lived with a friend about an hour away, her family said it was time for her to come back closer to home. So her family found a place for her at Welsh Mountain Home, where she met Mattie in the activity room.
“We don’t know what we would do if we hadn’t found each other,” says Lois. “We are the best of friends.”
Te sisterhood that Mattie and Lois have developed is just one of the many things that makes Welsh Mountain Home feel even more comfortable and secure. Lois and Mattie deeply appreciate the staff, who have encouraged their friendship from the beginning.
Tey applaud the fact that the staff treat all of the residents with respect and are caring and joyful to be around. “Tey are the nicest people ever,” says Lois.
Tanks to the care of Welsh Mountain Home, Mattie and Lois have had their needs met and many fears of the future alleviated.
“I feel like I’ve lost a lot of time over the years not having a real friendship like this,” says Lois about Mattie. “I just love her.”
