PAYROLL COSTS
The sectors have had mixed fortunes in respect of payroll costs, with a rise in personal care, a fall in nursing care and no change in the specialist sector. Rising income levels have hidden likely actual cost increases across the board.

Whilst profitability fell across all sectors last year, both the nursing and specialist sectors have seen profit levels improve and rise over the course of this year. However, personal care has not fared as well with profitability falling again to 30.1% in H1 2018. All sectors are below their respective 10-year averages.
