…TO THE 23RD EDITION OF THE COLLIERS HEALTHCARE MARKET REVIEW, AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF THE HEALTHCARE PROPERTY AND BUSINESS SECTOR, FOCUSING ON LONG-TERM PERSONAL CARE AND NURSING CARE FOR BOTH THE ELDERLY AND SPECIALIST MARKETS.

Our market-leading research was the first of its kind in the industry; our data collation and interpretation has assisted clients since 2002 and we are proud to continue to support both new and existing clients with industry benchmarks based on real data every year.

In the last twelve months, the sector has continued to provide challenges and opportunities in equal measure. Demand for good quality care provision in care homes, through primary care and the NHS continues to intensify. This is offset against limited progress with improved facilities, planning regulations, staff recruitment and retention and private investment – and that’s before we make a dent in the Brexit negotiations and the ensuing ramifications of our departure from the EU.

I’ve worked in the private healthcare sector for over 25 years and continue to see many existing operators and investors working proactively to address the issues within their remit and reach; self-regulation, re-investment and creative staffing solutions are tried and tested to try and provide the best care provision possible under seemingly relentless challenges.

The results over time can be extremely rewarding and can deliver strong occupancy and profitability but it’s a difficult balance to get right and many good operators have left the sector in search of a less taxing and emotive environment.

The Healthcare sector needs more investment, more development, proactive government support and strategic thinking, integration and public/private sector collaboration… the list goes on. With the demographic challenges we face, the issues will continue over the coming years and the sector will adjust and rise to the challenges as it has done over the past 25 years.

The Colliers International Healthcare team is one of the largest in the industry; we specialise in all aspects of the elderly, specialist and primary care markets to help provide our clients with straightforward solutions.
